(Zacatecas, México, 1922 – Ciudad de México, 1985)
Born in Zacatecas on March 25, 1922, this prominent artist studied painting and sculpture at “La Esmeralda” in Mexico City until 1945. After a period as a teacher at the same school, he traveled to Europe in 1946 to delve into figurative culture, attending workshops in Paris with Braumer and Brancusi.
He returned to Mexico in 1948 and continued traveling through Europe and North Africa in 1950. He gained recognition at the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana in 1959 and won the “José Clemente Orozco” National Painting Prize in 1960. He exhibited at the Palacio de Bellas Artes and the Galería de Arte Mexicano in 1965.
In addition to being a prominent painter and sculptor, he was a passionate collector, acquiring artworks from various cultures and renowned artists such as Dalí, Picasso, and Chagall.
Before his passing in 1985, he founded a museum in Zacatecas with his extensive collection and created a stained glass window for the Legislative Power of Zacatecas.
He received the “Favorite Son” distinction from his state in 1977 and the Painting Salon Award in 1966.
